This intensive two-day course provides managers with the tools and knowledge to carry on comprehensive financial conversations. Participants are introduced to foundation topics such as accounting and guided through increasingly advanced topics that include intellectual capital, cost analysis and performance measurement. Course topics are reinforced with case study exercises. Participants will learn to discuss the implications of a variety of topics including business valuation, risk modeling, and business analysis.

Upon completion of this program, managers will be able to understand and discuss the following financial competencies:

  • Review Financial Statements- Recognize noise in the statements, focus on what is important, quickly size up financial strengths and weaknesses
  • Analyze Financial Statements- Apply three different techniques that are cross walked to external benchmark data
  • Benchmark Financial Performance– Apply external benchmarks that are sized to company and industry types
  • Calculate Key Financial Metrics- Know how to assign benefit streams to companies and recognize common adjustments
  • Analyze Cost Structures - Work through different exercises that explain five techniques used in cost analysis
  • Develop a Financial Forecast- Work through three case study exercises on revenue drivers, cost drivers, and trend analysis
  • Identify and Grow Intellectual Capital- Apply a common framework for appreciating the intellectual capital of a business
  • Develop Non-Financial Performance Measurements- Apply specific tools and techniques for developing a comprehensive performance framework
  • Analyze the Business– Identify and apply six different analytical models to solve critical business questions
